The initiative is a state-led effort managed by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers. Achieve's American Diploma Project served as an important foundation for the draft standards documents, which incorporate benchmarks for college- and career-readiness as well as grade-by-grade progressions toward these benchmarks. ACE has worked with leading disciplinary organizations to convene expert faculty committees to provide ongoing feedback and advice to the standards drafting committees. Begun in the fall of 2009, the final standards are slated to be released in early May 2010.
States will be moving soon to formally adopt the standards— and will contemplate creating new assessments tied to these standards. The Webinar is designed to help higher education faculty and administrators to begin discussing the implications of the new standards for colleges and universities. Featured speakers include Molly Corbett Broad, president of ACE; Michael Cohen, president of Achieve; and Lynne Weisenbach, vice chancellor for Educator Preparation and Innovation, Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.
